Denver Nuggets rookie Collin Gillespie will be out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a lower left leg fracture, the team announced.
Gillespie, who went undrafted out of Villanova, suffered the injury this week and underwent surgery on Friday in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father, Jim, told the Philadelphia Inquirer the injury was suffered helping out at a Villanova team practice.
Jim said Collin is expected to return in 5-6 months.
The 23-year-old was named a third-team All-American last season after averaging 15.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and one steal as a fifth-year senior. He finished as the all-time program leader in games played (156) and the No. 12 scorer with 1,858 points.
Gillespie signed a two-way contract with the Nuggets on July 3.
He had a strong showing in the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.5 steals in four games. He scored in double figures three times and had his best game on July 10 with 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
