Every player in Philadelphia 76ers history who has worn No. 42

It’s the summertime in the NBA so now is the time to learn some history. The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the older franchises in the NBA with their history spanning back to the 1949-50 season.

With that much time under their belt in the NBA, they have had hundreds of players come through and make an impact on the City of Brotherly Love.

With it being the offseason, now is a time to go through some of that Sixers history. In this edition, Sixers Wire looks at the No. 42, which has been worn by 12 players in the history of the franchise.

This is a running series that will go through all of the uniform numbers worn in franchise history.

The previous edition of this series was a list compiling the four players who have worn the No. 43.

Here is the list of those 12 players who have worn No. 43 in Sixers history:

Jeff Haliburton, 1973

Haliburton lasted only two seasons in the NBA and he played 31 games for the Sixers in the 1972-73 season after starting off the season in Atlanta. H averaged 9.5 points and 2.6 rebounds for Philadelphia.

Luther Rackley, 1973-74

Rackley played only nine games for the Sixers and he averaged 2.0 points and 2.4 rebounds. Philadelphia waived him early in the 1973-74 season.

Harvey Catchings, 1974-1979

Catchings played in 372 games across five seasons for the Sixers before being traded to the then-New Jersey Nets and then joining the Milwaukee Bucks (he’s with the Bucks in the photo above). He averaged 3.0 points and 5.0 rebounds with Philadelphia.

Mike Bantom, 1982

Bantom played in 43 games with one start in Philadelphia and he averaged 8.8 points and 5.3 rebounds donning the No. 42 uniform for the Sixers.

Mike Gminski, 1987-1991

Gminski was a very productive player for the Sixers during his time in Philadelphia. He averaged 14.9 points and 9.0 rebounds in 240 games, starting 239 of them, and was a reliable player night in and night out.

Scott Williams, 1994-1999
