Player extensions in the works

Minnesota Timberwolves Bolmaro creates $4.4 M TPE, what's that?

Okay, so the Minnesota Timberwolves have assembled a pretty impressive roster for the 2022-23 season. But we know that the NBA also means ‘Never Believe Always,” and forces are already beginning to work upon the Timberwolves to erode them from a lofty perch in the NBA standings that they have yet to achieve.

The team has contracts for both Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns in place for the foreseeable future, and a final year (or two if the team exercises its option for their third star-to-be for shooting wonder, Anthony Edwards. but the roster begins to dissipate in terms of players as soon into the future as the 2023-24 season. That’s just one short year away.

The Minnesota Timberwolves front office has a lot of work to do, don’t they?  That’s why it’s very encouraging to read that the Minnesota Timberwolves are rumored to be working with multiple players on extensions. Now the only question is, who might that be?

Timberwolves rumors: Extensions are on the table

Based on the comments from Minnesota Timberwolves beat report Darren Wolfson from ABC-affiliate KSTP.com, the team is already in talks with point guard D’Angelo Russell. But Wolfson hinted that there are already multiple players targeted by the team for extensions.

In 2023, the Timberwolves have a few players who are vital to the team’s future. The Timberwolves whose contracts expire in 2023 are D’Angelo Russell, Austin Rivers, Bryn Forbes, Naz Reid, and Jaylen Nowell. The team also has options to extend or negotiate a new contract for both Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels.

I would say that D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards are priorities right now. The team may be in a wait-and-see for Jaylen Nowell, Naz Reid, and Jaden McDaniels.

Of course, any player on the roster, if they flourish and voice a desire to remain, is an option for a contract extension.
