Lady Vols Unveil Select Non-Conference Home Opponents

The Tennessee women’s basketball program, which is preparing for its highly-anticipated 2022-23 campaign, revealed a handful of select non-conference home opponents Thursday who will appear on the schedule this season.

In addition to Virginia Tech, which was previously announced as UT’s visiting opponent for the Jimmy V Women’s Classic on Dec. 4, the Lady Vols will play host to three additional 2022 NCAA Tournament teams in UConn (date TBD), Indiana (Nov. 14) and UCF (Dec. 14) during the non-league slate. Times and TV information will be announced later, but fans can click HERE for season ticket information.

The Lady Vols, who are rated No. 4 in ESPN’s June 4 edition of the “Way-Too-Early Top 25,” will welcome fellow ranked squads in the form of the No. 2 Huskies, No. 11 Hokies and No. 12 Hoosiers to Thompson-Boling Arena. That strong non-conference home itinerary comes in addition to SEC tilts on Rocky Top vs. No. 1 South Carolina and No. 25 Georgia.

Ranked competition outside of Knoxville includes a November trip to the Bad Boy Mowers Women’s Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas, which features a field that includes No. 5 Texas, No. 7 Louisville and No. 23 South Dakota State among others. UT also has a previously-released SEC road match-up at No. 14 LSU (date TBD) and other non-league road and home contests that will be shared in the coming weeks.

The Lady Vols return 10 players, including four starters, from a squad that started 18-1 and finished 25-9 overall and 11-5 in the SEC (3rd) while advancing to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen despite season-ending injuries to three key contributors.

Leading the way for fourth-year head coach Kellie Harper are All-SEC/All-America Honorable Mention guard Jordan Horston and All-SEC/All-Defensive Team center Tamari Key. Additional regular contributors include returning starters in point guard Jordan Walker and wing Tess Darby, as well as two others with starting experience in 2022 SEC All-Freshman wing Sara Puckett and 2021 SEC All-Freshman forward Marta Suárez.

The Lady Vols also bring aboard four gifted transfers and a five-star freshman, including starters and previous all-league performers in forward Rickea Jackson (Mississippi State), power forward Jasmine Franklin (Missouri State) and point guard Jasmine Powell (Minnesota), as well as a pair of McDonald’s All-Americans in sophomore transfer forward Jillian Hollingshead (Georgia) and true freshman wing Justine…
