The Boston Celtics have done quite well in their team-building moves in the 2022 NBA offseason to date according to fans and analysts of the Massachusetts franchise, but the city’s media and fanbase do not always have the best reputation for objective assessments of the team.
That may be due at least in part to the historic success the team has had over the decades, but with titles in short supply in recent history, it is always worth taking the temperature of such things from less partisan analysts. Just how good has Boston done by adding Malcolm Brogdon, Danilo Gallinari, JD Davison, and Mfiondu Kabingele to the core of players who came within 2 wins of an NBA title?
We turned to a recent analysis of offseason moves around the league by For The Win’s Bryan Kalbrosky to find out.
“It’s no longer too early to say this: Brad Stevens is an excellent executive,” writes Kalbrosky.
“Last season, I was impressed that the Celtics added Derrick White without making a significant dent in their rotation. This offseason, the organization did the same with Malcolm Brogdon and Danillo Gallinari. Meanwhile, with Brogdon in the mix, Boston has three of the six NBPA vice presidents on the roster.”
“Overall, I can confidently say Boston’s rotation now has at least eight guys who can make a positive impact in the postseason,” adds the FTW writer. “That’s fantastic.”
In Kalbrosky’s assessment, this offseason was among the best in the NBA, earning the Celtics a solid “A” for what they have done to the team to prepare for another run at an NBA championship.
One of only nine teams in the league to rate better than a “B+” in the FTW analysts’ eyes (and only 7 to get an “A”), it’s clear that the hype over Boston’s offseason moves has support beyond the People’s Republic of Boston state media.
