Kayla Waskow adds Drew Mitchell to Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Coe College women’s basketball head coach Kayla Waskow announced the addition of Drew Mitchell as her new assistant coach early last week. Mitchell, a 2018 graduate of Western Illinois, joins the Kohawk staff after serving as an assistant coach at Eureka College for two seasons.

“I am very excited to welcome Drew to our women’s basketball family,” said Waskow. “He has a good feel for the game and energy that will really benefit our players and our program. Drew brings a variety of coaching experiences and has spent a lot of time on skill development as well. I look forward to seeing the impact he will have on our program!”

While at Eureka, Mitchell assisted in a variety of coaching roles including coordinating offensive and defensive schemes, post-player skill development and numerous other administrative and game-related tasks. Drew, who graduated with a master’s degree from West Virginia in 2021, also served as an assistant coach on the MacMurray College staff from 2018-2020. During his coaching career, Coach Mitchell has helped seven players earn postseason honors.

“First, I’d like to thank Kayla Waskow and the administration for giving me the opportunity to join the Kohawk family,” Mitchell said. “I’m excited to begin working alongside Coach Waskow. Her leadership and dedication to this program are admirable and I’m eager to continue building upon the foundation that she has established.”
