Latest BR Timberwolves trade proposal really “Shaking” things up

One Timberwolves trade Connelly won't make: KAT for Sixers Harris

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been at it a bit this off-season, packaging players and picks to land the crown jewel of defensive centers from the NBA in Rudy Gobert.  To some, the Timberwolves have done enough. To others, they are waiting for the other shoe to drop. For others? It’s a perfect time to script some trade proposals and see if they can get something happening.  Or at least some interest in getting something happening.

Such is the case of Bleacher Reports latest from Zach Buckley, a sports writer who has been rather busy throughout the NBA off-season ranking the roster moves of some of the more notable NBA teams while pausing occasionally to actively script some trades or NBA Free agent signings that have not yet taken place. Some address specific and immediate roster needs for those NBA teams, while others seem to be more headlining than worth the effort.

But in his July 13 article, 1 New Trade Idea for Every NBA Team After Free Agency, there is a trade for each NBA team. The one for the Minnesota Timberwolves is getting a bit of internet interest, and so it is worth holding up to the light.

Shaking things up in this Timberwolves trade proposal

In his proposal, Buckley proposes a simple man-for-man trade. In this proposed trade, Buckley suggests that the Timberwolves send backup center Naz Reid to the Philadelphia 76ers for backup shooting guard Shake Milton.

The proposal relies on the fact that the Timberwolves have satisfied the front-court quandary by trading for Rudy Gobert, allowing for the Timberwolves to trade Reid. The second presumption is that the Timberwolves are still in need of perimeter shooting, and that Shake Milton will not only provide a salvo of accurate three-point shooting but that he will bring perimeter defense as well.

Timberwolves Get

SG Shake Milton

I’m not certain that either situation is the case. The Philadelphia 76ers have gone to great lengths to build perimeter shooting and defense with their roster moves, and those additions have made Milton expendable. The Timberwolves, while upgrading their starting, sent rookie center Walker Kessler to the Utah Jazz, emerging without the prerequisite surplus at the center position that this trade would require.

Reid is still developing and improving, while Milton showed a bit of regression with the Sixers during the 2021-22 season.

The Timberwolves appear to have done enough on the roster to be ready for the 2022-23 season. Another point guard or center?…
