Fred Hoiberg Gives Update on Asst. Coach Search

On July 9, Nebraska Cornhuskers assistant coach Armon Gates departed to accept a job at Oregon.

Gates was Nebraska’s longest-tenured assistant coach. He had been with the program since 2018. Hoiberg will now be searching for a new assistant for the second time this offseason.

Back in March, the Cornhuskers and assistant coach Matt Abdelmassih “mutually” parted ways. Hoiberg then hired South Alabama’s Adam Howard to fill the vacancy.

Hoiberg told Brian Christopherson of 247 Sports that he plans on taking his time to find Gates’s replacement.

“Right now I’m just in the process of putting a list together that I feel good about, that our staff feels good about, doing a lot of background checks and talking to a lot of people,” Hoiberg said. “We’ll take our time with this one.”
