Lizzie Oleary named Sun Devil WBB assistant director of operations

TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University head women’s basketball coach Natasha Adair today announced the appointment of Lizzie Oleary as the program’s assistant director of operations.

Oleary will be transitioning from student-athlete to staff after playing the last five seasons for Adair at Delaware.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Lizzie Oleary to our Sun Devil Women’s Basketball family,” Adair said. “Lizzie will have a seamless transition into her role because of her work ethic as a leader and captain on the University of Delaware championship women’s basketball team.

“Lizzie understands the demand and rigor of the job from her experience as a high level Division I women’s basketball player. Her passion and knowledge of the game will make her a huge asset while greatly impacting our women’s basketball program as a whole.”

A starter in 81 of 147 career games – the most games played of any player in school history – Oleary was a two-year captain for the Blue Hens. In her last two seasons, the Willow Grove, Pa., native played a major role in helping Delaware to a 48-13 record, CAA regular season (2021) and tournament (2022) championships, a WNIT regional championship (2021) and the program’s first NCAA appearance (2022) since 2013.

After earning a spot on the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2018, Oleary would go on to earn several other honors throughout her career: Team Sixth Woman of the Year Award (2018), Team Iron Woman Award (2021), NCSA All-American Strength & Conditioning Athlete of the Year (2022).

Off the court, Oleary served in several organizations including the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Council (was elected to the SAAC Executive Board) and was a member of Delaware’s committees for Student-Athlete Diversity and Inclusion, HENMinded (mental health awareness) and Student-Athletes Against Social Injustice.

A four-time CAA Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree who completed the WBCA’s “So You Want to Be a Coach” Program in earlier this year, Oleary earned both her B.S. (Fashion Merchandising in 2021) and M.S. (International Business in 2022) degrees from Delaware.
