Purdue to Play Davidson in Inaugural Indy Classic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Indiana Sports Corporation has announced that Purdue and Davidson will compete in the inaugural Indy Classic at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The event will be played on Saturday, Dec. 17, in Indianapolis as part of a college basketball doubleheader. The other contest will pit Illinois State against Ball State.

This marks the second known game of Purdue’s non-conference schedule after it was announced it would play Florida State on Nov. 30. The Boilermakers will also compete in the Phil Knight Legacy in Portland, Oregon, on Nov. 24 through 27 as well as the Gavitt Games, giving the Boilermakers another outstanding non-conference schedule.

Davidson posted a 27-7 overall record a year ago, losing in the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament finals and falling to Michigan State, 74-73, as a 10-seed in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats lost to one team ranked outside the top 100 of the final NCAA Net rankings (Rhode Island) and finished the season ranked 46th with a 6-6 record in quad-1 and 2 games.

The game will also feature the Loyers. Fletcher, a freshman at Purdue, will square off against his brother, Foster, who is a senior at Davidson.

Purdue owns a 2-0 record all-time against Davidson, defeating Stephen Curry and the Wildcats in Dec. 2008, 76-58, in Indianapolis and 10 years later in the Charleston Classic, 79-58.
