Daryl Morey confident Sixers can compete with any team in the East

CAMDEN, N.J.–The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the more talented teams in the East led by a star duo in the form of Joel Embiid and James Harden. Embiid is one of the top players in the league while Harden is still a very good All-Star player.

After falling in Round 2 to the Miami Heat, the question at the top for Philadelphia is can they compete with the top teams in the East? The Heat just eliminated them, the Boston Celtics reached the NBA Finals, and the Milwaukee Bucks are still looming when Khris Middleton returns from his injury.

“Those are tough teams,” said president Daryl Morey on Thursday. “I think we can compete with them. Absolutely. All of them. I think we’re definitely better than some of them.”

Morey then took a pause and added that those teams have done more than his at the moment. While the Sixers are a very talented bunch, they have to prove themselves against the best teams in their conference.

“I think that they’ve earned the respect,” Morey added. “They’re probably better than us. We gotta show we can beat them, but we feel like absolutely we’re gonna play better and add a couple key pieces, hopefully in trade and hopefully, free agency. We feel very good about where we’ll be.”

The Sixers can no doubt compete with any team in the Eastern Conference. That’s what happens when a team has guys like Embiid and Harden, but the challenge for Morey and the Sixers will be making sure they get the right pieces around them in the offseason to ensure their spot in the East title race.
