Pat Baldwin Reportedly Added as Third Assistant Coach for Patrick Ewing and the Georgetown Hoyas

It appears that Patrick Ewing and the Georgetown Hoyas have found a third assistant coach in Pat Baldwin, Sr. per reports from Hilltop Hoops and Adam Zagoria.

After dismissing Robert Kirby and Akbar Waheed in March, Ewing now has a brand new Recruiting Coordinator in Kevin Nickelberry, an elevated former β€œspecial assistant” in Clinton Crouch, and now Baldwin as his assistant coaches. This move, as rumored since March, will likely move Louis Orr to a different coaching role, such as β€œSpecial Assistant to the Head Coach.”

Hilltop Hoops broke the news of Baldwin’s addition after cleverly spotting an unidentified coach in an Instagram video. Hilltop Hoops had this to say (read the full article here):

According to a source inside the Georgetown men’s basketball program, Georgetown is hiring former Milwaukee head men’s basketball coach Pat Baldwin Sr. as an assistant coach on the Hoyas’ coaching staff…

Per source, Baldwin Sr. is expected to hit the road this weekend to begin recruiting for Georgetown.

Of course, many are wondering about the motivation for hiring the former coach of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee as his son, Pat Baldwin, Jr., has stated his intent to remain in the NBA Draft. Baldwin Jr. also appears to have an agent or two. Recovering from an ankle injury, the younger Baldwin is still expected to be drafted in the early second round and could be considered a steal in the NBA if he truly bounces back anywhere near his 5-star, top 4 status as a recruit. Point being, he’s not going to be a Hoya.

Without Baldwin, Jr. as a deal sweetener, the question becomes: what can Pat Baldwin, Sr. do for Georgetown?

Baldwin was let go from Milwaukee in March 2022, after a 10-22 (8-14) season, with the press release stating:

β€œOn behalf of our entire program and the UWM community, we thank Coach Baldwin for his tireless work and for his time as the head coach of our program,” Braun said. β€œWe appreciate Pat’s genuine commitment to our student-athletes, whether that was on the court, in the classroom, or as a mentor to young adults. We certainly wish him and his family all the best moving forward.”

Baldwin posted an overall record of 57-92 in his five seasons, going 34-59 in Horizon League play.

Baldwin posted 16 victories…
