Former UNC basketball sharpshooter Danny Green is expected to return to the NBA next season.
Philadelphia 76ers wing Danny Green suffered a season-ending injury during a Game 6 loss to the Miami Heat when he tore both the ACL and LCL in his left knee.
And while injuries of that magnitude often take the better part of a year to recover from, Green, a former Tar Heel and 13-year NBA veteran, said in a recent episode of his podcast Inside the Green Room that he will be back next season.
“I don’t want it to end this way. I’ve considered it. Some people talk to be about it, but I’m like no, this is not me.” Green said. “It’s not how I want to end it. It just gives me motivation to get back on the court sooner than later.”
Green turns 35 next season and is due $10 million from the 76ers if he remains on the team’s roster on July 1, so there’s no guarantee at this point that he’ll be in Philadelphia following his lengthy recovery.
He averaged 5.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 62 appearances this season for the 51-win 76ers. He shot 38 percent from three-point range and took over ninth place in NBA history for three-pointers made in the playoffs.
“I will be back for All-Star break. You got to believe it. You heard it here first,” Green said.
