Molten BBL Team of the Year

The 2021-22 Molten BBL Team of the Year, as voted by BBL Head
Coaches, includes three players from the league-winning Leicester Riders,
alongside the league’s leading scorer and the Great Britain captain.

Patrick Whelan – Leicester Riders

The only unanimous selection in the team, Patrick
Whelan was Leicester’s leading scorer as they cruised to a sixth BBL
Championship title with a 25-2 record, already completing a double by winning
the BBL Cup. Playing his first season in the league after a college career in
the USA and three years playing for Real Murcia in Spain, the 25-year-old has
made an instant impact, averaging 15 points, four rebounds and three assists in
league play. He has proven to be a marksman as the second-leading three-point
shooter in the BBL with a sensational accuracy of 48%, and  is ninth in
overall field goal percentage at 54%. He had a season-high of 25 points on
three occasions, most significantly in the BBL Cup semi-final against London
Lions where he shot 6-7 (86%) from long range.

Geno Crandall – Leicester Riders

In his second season as Leicester’s floor general, Crandall has
already added two more trophies to the league title that he won last year and
is elected to the Molten BBL Team of the Year for the second time. He averaged
13 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals for the season, most
significantly improving his three-point percentage to a professional
career-high of 40%. He was fourth in the league in assists and seventh in
steals, with the shifty point guard also drawing the sixth most fouls among all
players. He averaged 17 points and eight assists in Leicester’s run to BBL Cup
glory – the first time they had won the competition since 2014 – and he was MVP
of the Cup Final after taking the game over to finish with 26 points. More
recently, he posted a huge 32 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds and five
steals in Leicester’s Play-off semi-final win at Glasgow.
