After much speculation, the final piece to the puzzle is set: Caleb Love will return to the UNC basketball program for the 2022-2023 season.

The final piece to the puzzle is now set, as Caleb Love announced that he will return to the UNC basketball program for the 2022-2023 season. Love now becomes the fourth starter to return from last year’s team that made a run to the NCAA national championship game.

Love is coming off a season in which he improved his scoring average by 5.4 points. He also shot the ball much more efficiently and has started to limit turnovers, a sign of his maturity in the Tar Heels offense.

Being viewed as a potential “one and done” coming into his collegiate career, Love will now spend at least three seasons with the UNC basketball program. After exploring all of his options, the St. Louis, Missouri native decided that staying in Chapel Hill was the right decision for him.

This is major news for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels, as they now have their duo of Love and R.J. Davis back in the fold. With Armando Bacot and Leaky Black also returning, expectations should be very high for North Carolina heading into the 2022-2023 season.

Although Love played some social media mind games with us all, it all led to his much-anticipated decision. Now, we can all relax, as the core of last year’s team is now officially back in the mix for another season.

Unless we see an unexpected transfer, the Tar Heels have no available scholarships to offer. It’s very likely that the current roster is the one we’ll see when the UNC basketball program kicks off its new season later this year.
