NBA Play-In Tournament Field Set

The NBA recently released some final statistics about how fans consumed the 2021-22 regular season. All of the numbers pointed to great growth for the NBA, as far as viewership goes.

This past season was the most viewed in three years, as nationally televised games averaged 1.6 million viewers. In addition, NBA League Pass subscriptions were up 30% from the prior year. The league also saw a 7% increase in traffic across all forms of social media.

Fans being allowed back in arenas, with many at full capacity, combined with the increased interest at home, the NBA is now projecting a salary cap increase of nearly $10 million for the next season. The NBA and NBPA originally baked in at least a 3% increase of the cap. That initial projection of a $115 million cap for 2022-23 was revised to $119 before last season ended.

Over the past year, as things have improved for the league, the cap projection has continued to rise. The NBA now projects the cap to be $122 million for the 2022-23 season. That projection could continue to rise, pending the length of series during the 2022 NBA Playoffs.
