Kyrie Irving shaky in return to Barclays, Nets fall to Hornets

Kevin Durant and the Nets have been forced to try to win far too many games at Barclays Center this year without an offensive contribution from Kyrie Irving. 

Irving missed 15 of his first 17 shots from the floor in his first appearance on Brooklyn’s home court in nearly 10 months, and even his eight straight points in a fourth-quarter comeback bid weren’t enough for the Nets to avoid a 119-110 loss to the Hornets on Sunday night. 

“I don’t take it for granted what happened tonight. It was historic and I’m grateful that I got a chance to be out there with my brothers and just leave it all out there. Not the result we wanted. I didn’t shoot as well as I wanted. Basically none of the things I had hoped for going well tonight,” Irving said. “It just didn’t happen.” 

Irving, who was appearing in games on back-to-back nights for the first time this season, totaled 16 points (6-for-22) with 11 assists. 

Durant netted 27 points…
