The Big Ten and SEC are having disappointing NCAA Tournament showings

College basketball conference superiority is always going to be a hot-button issue and downright impossible to fully settle. But this year’s NCAA Tournament gives a bit of a glimpse of the greater college basketball landscape.

The Big 12 and the ACC lead all conferences with three teams in the Sweet 16, putting legitimacy to their claims as the best conferences in college basketball.

And the PAC-12 certainly has a claim to being underrepresented to say the least.

The Big Ten had nine teams in the NCAA Tournament – more than any other conference – but only has two programs left after Sunday. Not a good look for the conference.

On an interesting side note, the top three teams in the final Ferris Mowers Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports are still alive in the NCAA Tournament (No. 1 Gonzaga, No. 2 Arizona and No. 3 Kansas). A total of 10 teams ranked in the final Ferris Mowers Poll (March 13) are still in the tournament.
