Marquette was picked ninth in the preseason Big East poll — ahead of only Georgetown and DePaul. Fast-forward to the present, and it appears the voters got the bottom two teams right considering the Hoyas and Blue Demons are a combined 1-12 in league games and occupying the last two spots in the league standings.
But Marquette?
Marquette is exceeding all reasonable expectations. After Sunday’s 75-64 win over Xavier, the Golden Eagles are 14-6 overall, 6-3 in the Big East and (based on winning percentages within the league) tied for third in the conference standings.
